Copper-Base Metals Exploration
Southern Cross has identified numerous occurrences of copper - base metals mineralisation within its tenements, and mining contractor Newexco is currently undertaking a review of these prospects to prioritise targets for a ground-based Electromagnetic (EM) survey and drilling.
Key potential targets include:
Copper Bore
- +20km of strike prospective for copper-zinc-gold-silver massive sulphide at a black shale/ basalt contact
- Previous drill results of 8m @ 8.3% copper, 4.3g/t gold and 5m @ 1.5% zinc, 4.2% copper
- New results from SXG drilling includes 12m @ 1.2% Cu, 1.1g/t Au, 5.5% Zn, 0.4% Pb, 18.8g/t Ag from 165m in hole CBRC020, confirming the VMS model and coincident with a defined EM conductor at Southern Gossan
- Mineralisation and EM conductor are both open at Southern Gossan
- Review of all historical data is currently underway
- Use of modern geophysical techniques will be extended along the trend and followed up with drill testing where required.
Marda Dome
- Vacuum drilling conducted by WMC in the 1970s returned 100m-plus intercepts ending in mineralisation grading between 500 and 1,000ppm copper
- No drill testing has ever been conducted
Sandplain/Boomerang Dam
- Previous RAB drilling has returned +1,000ppm copper
Bullfinch North
- 11km strike length
- Anomalous copper of up to 1,850ppm Cu from previous RAB drilling
Southern Cross intends to undertake further exploration at these prospects during 2011.
